We can’t always predict when a dental emergency will happen, that’s part of what makes an emergency. It can be hard to know what constitutes a dental emergency and what is something to not worry about yet, so let’s go over a few common dental emergencies.
Everyone has a tooth ache now and again and it is often the first real sign that something may be wrong with your teeth. This is also one of the most common dental emergencies to see. If you start having a toothache try flossing, brushing, or rinsing with warm water in case it is just food that needs to be removed.
If your toothache continues then do go to a doctor to see what may be amiss.
A dental abscess may just look like a spot on your gums but can quickly balloon into something more dangerous. It’s a pocket in your gums of infection that can cause health issues. You will need dental care immediately to help remove the abscess. Sometimes a root canal or emergency tooth extraction are the only ways to help yourself.
Gum disease is another common issue we see, and bleeding swollen gums are a sign that may be the case. Gingivitis is definitely treatable, but if it gets worse then it can get very painful and hard to treat. Make sure to see a dentist if you are showing any signs of gum disease.
A lucky few can have their wisdom teeth come through without any issues, but most of the population does not have that sort of luck. Wisdom teeth tend to come in and have nowhere to go so they grow sideways or underneath your gums. This can cause painful inflammation that you may need to have treated.
Trauma happening to your teeth is another common incidence, which can include a chip, fracture, or loose tooth due to trauma. If this happens go to your emergency dentist right away.
